Shape the Future: Your Voice at the Policymaking Table

Advancing Ethical and Responsible Communication

How can young practitioners contribute to the rules and decisions that will govern their work? This session moves from awareness to participation, exploring how young people can bring informed perspectives to professional standards, organizational policies, and public consultations on responsible communication.

  • Discuss ethical judgment, misinformation and disinformation, transparency, privacy, and responsible AI through cases relevant to the region.
  • Identify routes to participation through professional associations, youth forums, consultations, research, and working groups, where available.
  • Examine what meaningful youth representation requires: preparation, access, listening, and feedback on how contributions are considered.

INTENDED OUTCOME: Participants identify an issue they want to influence and a practical route for contributing an informed recommendation.

Shape Your Career in an AI-Driven World

Rethinking the Starting Line for Careers in PR and Communications

If AI can perform tasks traditionally assigned to beginners, how should young people prepare for their first role? This 45-minute session examines the changing starting line without assuming that entry-level professionals are no longer needed. It focuses on how emerging practitioners can demonstrate judgment, contextual understanding, ethical awareness, and responsible use of AI.

  • Explore which entry-level tasks can be supported by AI and where human verification, stakeholder understanding, and accountability remain essential.
  • Show how portfolios, supervised projects, internships, and mentorship can demonstrate thinking and practical capability alongside polished outputs.
  • Challenge employers and educators to provide meaningful learning opportunities as the work of junior practitioners evolves.

INTENDED OUTCOME: Participants identify a priority capability to develop and one practical project or experience that will help them demonstrate their value.
